Congo Natty (UK) feat. Congo Dubz

congo-nattyThis year Congo Natty (Mikail Tafari) brings his musical revolution to the Funky Elephant. He rose to fame as Rebel MC with the hip house group Double Trouble in the early 90’s. Their hit Street Tuff has later been called the birth of Grime by luminaries like Dizzee Rascal. But our Jungle Souljah very quickly turned in another direction, travelled the world to find his own style and returned to claim his place as one of the pioneers and legends of Jungle.

Congo Natty has released rather few official albums, preferring to put out underground releases, singles and EPs, but after several years’ hiatus he published Jungle Revolution (Big Dada, 2003). This time the revolution is all about combining blistering Jungle/D&B beats with Reggae, Hip Hop and Ragga with an unprecedented intensity. The music never forgets the actual message, and he keeps the towers of Babylon under constant barrage without ever succumbing to negativity. Congo Natty is a revolutionary with all his heart.

In addition to his acclaim as a producer and MC he has — above all — become famous as a DJ, and Funky Elephant is happy to bring him to the stage as Friday night’s DJ headliner with his partner-in-crime, Congo Dubz. The set will take us through his long musical career and wide variety of influences all the way from the Roots Reggae classics to full-on Jungleragga blasts.
