Funky Elephant is proud to bring the Ghanaian guitar legend Ebo Taylor back to Helsinki. Taylor moved to London to study in the 60’s, but his releases from that time never really found their way outside Africa. However, the invigorated record collector scene of the last two decades has made his early albums also available in Europe and the Americas. Ebo Taylor’s music has been featured on the Ghana compilation from Soundway Records, and his song Heaven became a minor club hit, which was lated sampled by Usher, among others.

Ebo TaylorTaylor finally released his first international album Love & Death in 2010, and his collaboration with the Berlin-based Afrobeat Academy also produced the brilliant follow-up Appia Kwa Bridge. This was quickly followed by Life Stories, a compilation of his songs from the 70’s and 80’s, and several of his original Ghanaian vinyls have since been re-released.

The 78-year-old Ebo Taylor is in fine form and riding high in Europe. In Finland his two performances at Flow Festival packed the house to the rafters.

His show at Funky Elephant is sure to bring a welcome blast of sunlight into the dark and to get those hips moving like it was already summer in April.
