What is the Funky Elephant Festival?

The Funky Elephant Festival showcases the present state and current phenomenon of both local and global funky rhythm music. Genres like funk, soul, jazz, hip hop, reggae, afrobeat, world music are the essence of the festival, but we love all music. For us ‘funky’ describes all this music (instead of just ‘funk’) and we hope to push that ideology forward in our events. We both give opportunities for rising local names and bring in international stars.

Over the years the festival has hosted and promoted many major players in the Finnish scene, like Paleface, Jätkäjätkät, Don Johnson Big Band, Jukka Poika and many more. There have also been numerous international acts including Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Tony Allen, Joe Bataan, Roy Ayers, Bonobo, The Coup and  other stars of contemporary rhythm music.
